Travelling by train in India is a very
affordable and regular thing and so most people swear by that. But again
travelling alone means one has to keep a few things in mind so that they do not
face any issues when they are boarding a train.
Especially if one is a woman then they need
to be extra careful when they are travelling alone. Though travelling solo has
become a very common thing these days but it is always a great idea to follow
by a few things so that the journey can become hassle free.
- One has to wear suitable
clothes for the train journey. This is mandatory because dressing in a loosely
fitted clothes and covering up in a train journey (especially if one is
travelling alone) can help one avoid any kind of unwanted attention. Also
wearing something loose can also be very comfortable and one can feel relaxed
while travelling in a train. It is also recommended not to wear too much of
expensive jewellery when one is travelling alone.
- Once one reaches the station,
then they can look at the display board and see the name of the trains on the
lists that are supposed to arrive. One can check the train number and their
arrival time along with their platform of arrival on that list only. These days
if one has booked a train ticket online, then they can easily check this
information from the online website of IRCTC as well. If one is not sure about
anything and is travelling alone then they can always ask the railways
officials around and at the enquiry counters to clear their doubts.
- If one is travelling alone,
then they must reach the station by keeping a good amount of time in hand. This
will help one to reach the platform where the train will arrive on time and
then wait around the place where their train coach is supposed to arrive. This
will save them from any last moment hurry and one can board the train on time
and easily put the luggage on place and get their seat.
- It is not at all a good idea to
keep the luggage unattended when one is travelling alone. One can lock all
their luggage individually and if they are doing an overnight journey then they
must chain them with their berth so that no one can snatch them away.
- When one is travelling
overnight, they can either pack their food from home or else they can always
get train
food. There are some trains which have pantry cars and one can get food
from there or else they can always get it from the e catering services provided
by the Indian Railways these days.
- One must carry some emergency
medicines along with them when they are travelling alone. It is a good idea to
take some fever; head ache and stomach ache medicines so that one can manage a
case of emergency.
If these things are followed then one might
not face issues when travelling solo.
